You’ll then be transferred to the Panama Garden Resort for a relaxing start to your adventure. Your adventure begins aBer breakfast! A one-hour drive takes you to the Marangu Gate, where you’ll register and meet your trekking team. StarCng at 1,879 meters, the 8 km (5- mile) hike to Mandara Hut takes approximately 3.5–4 hours.
Along the way, marvel at the lush rainforest, home to blue monkeys and vibrant flora like the iconic impa7ens kilimanjari flower. By day’s end, you’ll spot giant heathers and bearded lichen as you approach the A-frame huts of Mandara, equipped with solar-powered lighCng and stream-fed water.
Today’s journey takes you from Mandara Hut (2,720 m) to Horombo Hut (3,720 m), covering 11 km (7 miles) in 5.5–6 hours. ABer breakfast, begin your ascent through scenic moorland landscapes, passing the Maundi Crater and spoang Kilimanjaro’s unique flora, including giant groundsels and lobelias.
If the weather is clear, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo’s snow-capped peak and the rugged Mawenzi. Horombo Hut provides dormitory-style accommodaCons with washbasins and toilets for a comfortable stay.
This vital acclimaCzaCon day helps your body adjust to higher alCtudes. You can take an opConal hike to the Zebra Rocks (4,100 m), a 90-minute trek showcasing striking rock formaCons. Return to Horombo Hut for another night, where you’ll noCce the transiCon from moorland to alpine desert.
Keep an eye out for high-alCtude wildlife, such as rodents and birds, thriving in this seemingly barren environment.
After breakfast, you’ll conCnue your climb to Kibo Hut (4,703 m), ascending nearly 1,000 meters over 9 km (6 miles). The 5–6 hour trek includes a stop to refill water at the Maua River, the last water source before the summit.
As vegetaCon fades, you’ll traverse the barren Saddle, a dramaCc expanse of alpine desert between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, rest and prepare for the midnight summit aEempt.
Summit day is here! Begin your ascent at midnight, navigaCng rocky trails and zigzags towards Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Along the way, pass landmarks like William’s Point, Hans Meyer Cave, and Gilman’s Point.
Celebrate your achievement at the summit before descending back to Kibo Hut for a well- earned brunch. ABer a brief rest, conCnue down to Horombo Hut for your overnight stay.
Your final trek begins with breakfast at Horombo Hut, followed by the descent to Marangu Gate (1,879 m). Stop for lunch at Mandara Hut before reaching the gate, where you’ll receive your summit cerCficate—a memento of your incredible journey.
From the gate, you’ll be driven back to Moshi and the comfort of Panama Garden Resort, where you can relax and celebrate your accomplishment.
After a restul night, enjoy breakfast and check out by 10:00 am. If you wish to extend your hotel stay or conCnue with a safari adventure, arrangements can be made in advance. You’ll be transferred to Kilimanjaro InternaConal Airport for your onward journey.
